Philadelphia Women's RFC Creates Playing Opportunities for All

After founding the club in 1976, the Philadelphia Women's RFC have reached a total of over 40 ruggers in their program. After growing to so many members, the Philadelphia Women's RFC created a Division 3 team to create more playing opportunities for those who are eager to get on the pitch.

The Division 1 team, the Mullets, compete against other Division 1 teams such as Raleigh and Pittsburgh. They also compete with local Division 2 clubs, such as Brandywine, Doylestown, Phoenixville Whitehorse, and Harrisburg. The Division 1 team also receives berths to the National Playoffs virtually every year.

The Division 3 team, the Mustaches, compete against other local Division 3 clubs such as Lehigh Valley, South Jersey, and Northeast Irish. Both sides are based out of Center City Philadelphia.

Giving Back to the Philadelphia Community

Philadelphia Women's RFC creates unique and creative ways to give back to the community. An on-going service they offer is the Rent-A-Rugger program. For $25 an hour, anyone can rent a the Philadelphia Women's RFC player to assist with moving, painting, or other projects. The money the player earns for being rented out goes directly back to the club. The Philadelphia Women's RFC was awarded Best All-Around Muscle by Best of Philly for offering their services.

Over the 2017 Summer, the Philadelphia Women's RFC teamed up with the Schuylkill River Valley RFC to create the 2017 Summer Rugby Camp at the Boys & Girls Club of Philadelphia. There was an anticipated 130 local children who participated in this Summer Rugby Camp. Besides Philadelphia Women's RFC and other clubs coming together to create opportunities for children to participate in a summer camp, this initiative also was a great way for these teams to promote the sport of rugby as a whole.
