EPRU Players Invited to Work with USA U-17 Selectors Three players; Vasil Razpovov (Vikings), Nick Coffey (Delaware Military Acad) & Patrick Kardish(St. Joe's Prep) have been invited. Three members of the Delaware Destroyers All Star team that traveled to Pittsburgh to participate in the Potomac LAU U-19 All Star Challenge on June 21-22 were invited to travel to Ohio State University on June 26 to work with the USA U-17 Team Selectors.
The Selectors are bringing in 50 players from across the country and from this camp will invite 30 to the National Team Camp in July. The three players are: Vasil Razpovov from the Viking Rugby Club. Vasil played #8, 2nd row, and prop for the Vikings but is being brought to camp to compete strictly for a prop position. Nick Coffey from the Delaware Military Academy. Nick played prop for DMA and the same for the Destroyers. The National Coaches think he is a top candidate for the final 30. Patrick Kardish from St. Joe's Prep. Patrick played mostly fullback for the Prep and at the June 21-22 tournament showed his defensive skills as well as some solid kicking.
The Destroyers traveled with only 12 players due to last minute drops but were able to play all three of their scheduled games with players from other teams filling in. In the final game on Sunday the Destroyers lost 14-10 to the eventual champions, Carolina, after they had jumped out to a 14-0 lead three minutes into the game. We believe it was the way our players responded in this game that got them the invites.
The Destroyers would like to thank Grotto's Pizza and Pro Physical Therapy for their support of this trip. The Delaware Rugby Foundation organized the trip and with the help of our sponsors were able to keep the players personal expense to under $30 each.
