New Zealand Rugby Union announces short North American tour featuring matches in Toronto and Philadelphia. The Eagles will play the Maori All Blacks at PPL Park on November 9th.

The 3rd Annual Break’em in 7’s rugby tournament, hosted by the Wilkes-Barre Breakers, was held on Saturday May 18, 2013.  Even with cooler temperatures and some rain throughout the afternoon, the tournament again proved to be a success in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Rugby Report - May 24, 2013

At USA Rugby's Round of 16, the Wilmington Men faced Pittsburg RFC and came away with a hard-fought 19-8 victory.  Rocky Gorge was next, with Wilmington rising to the top 24-12. Coming off an EPRU West victory in the fall and a big win over PSU Berks in April at the Philly 7s NSCRO Qualifying Tournament, the Susquehanna University Men’s Rugby Club are on a roll.

Wilmington Wins - Nationals Next

In Virginia Beach, at USA Rugby's Round of 16, the Wilmington Men faced the Midwest runner-up, Pittsburgh RFC, and came away with a hard-fought 19-8 victory.  Rocky Gorge was next on Sunday and having met them three weeks earlier in the MARFU Final, an expected battle ensued, with Wilmington rising to the top 24-12. The Wilmington Men advance to USA Rugby National's on June 1st in Glendale, CO and will play against Snake River, ID, Pacific Coast Champions.

Hosted by Wilkes-Barre Breakers at the Forty-Fort Soccer Club Fields.  Entry fee for club men $200, for club women $175; 2nd side $150.  Hong Kong format, 3 games guaranteed. Open to club men and club women. Promoting the game of Rugby is our passion.  Saturday, May 18, 2013 will be our third year of hosting a Tournament in the Wilkes-Barre area since our club was established in 1973.  We have decided to keep the tournament as an Invitation only event for at least one more year.

Susquehanna to Compete for the NSCRO National 7s Championship

The inaugural NSCRO National 7s Championship is set for June 1 and 2 in Philadelphia, PA. and is being held in conjunction with USA Sevens Collegiate Rugby Championship. The preliminary matches will be held at Drexel University.. EPRU's own Susquehanna University Men is one of only eight teams in the country that have qualified to participate. Susquehanna will play the University of North Florida from Jacksonville. Kickoff is set for 8:40am Saturday morning.

Rugby Takes Over the Streets

Rugby took over Rittenhouse Square when teams from Temple University Men, University of Pennsylvania, St. Joseph's University and University of Delaware shut down 18th Street on May 16th to showcase their skills and demonstrate various rugby stunts in preparation for the Collegiate Rugby Championship. The players gave away rugby-related gifts to bystanders and ran a few scrimmages to show the audience what the game looks like at full pace.

Eagle Prop GJ Sucher Pitches In for Philly Whitemarsh

USA Eagle and longtime Philadephia Whitemarsh and Washington Rugby Club prop George "GJ" Sucher ran a training session the other evening for the forwards from PWRFC. Philadelphia Whitemarsh is headed to Virginia Beach this weekend to face New England RFU champions, Saratoga Stampede (NY) in the USA Rugby Round of 16.  The Chicago Riot and Hilton Head Island are also participating. PW hopes to face the winner of the Riot v. Hilton Head match on Sunday. George seemed pleased with the session and the EPRU caught up with George afterwards to get some additional insight.

Susquehanna Standouts

Susquehanna Preps for the CRC

Coming off an EPRU West victory in the fall and a big win over PSU Berks in April at the Philly 7s NSCRO Qualifying Tournament, the Susquehanna University Men’s Rugby Club are on a roll. With the guidance and support of coach Jonathan “Doc” Niles, the boys are hoping to represent the EPRU well at the NSCRO National 7s Championship, a part of the Collegiate Rugby Championship 7's at PPL Park in early June. Doc expects veteran high school player and senior Mike Tilley, sophomore Alex Holderbaum and 7s center Lucas Wenzel to represent Susquehanna well in their debuts at the CRC.
